  • Cindy Blain: Ambivalent Entities
    (Opening Reception: Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005
    From 2:00 to 5:00 PM)
  • In my work, I explore faces, figures and anything vaguely anthropomorphic. What little it takes to make something appear human, and how often we strive to find that humanity. Ambiguity in my imagery helps engage the viewer’s imagination and reflection.

    I use a lot of expressive color and vigorous line to create rich, exuberant tableaux in my watermedia paintings. My monotypes are often more monochromatic as I particularly enjoy exploring the mystery of subjects via the dark-field method, whereby a thin layer of paint is put on a plate, and then the image emerges as the artist lifts off the pigment. In both media, the subject emerges in unexpected ways.

  • Artist: Marion Podolski
    Show: Fabulous Felines!
    (Opening Reception: Sunday Nov. 7, 2004
    From 2:00 to 5:00 PM
    )

  • Inspired by the characters of the very individual felines that share Marion's life and her studio, this series has continued to grow. Created as larger than life, colorful cats, the paintings portray a range of moods from restful to playful, to watchful, to predatory! The series is not only about the nature of cats, but about the feelings evoked by them.

    In real life, the models hardly, if ever, hold the same pose for any length of time, and certainly not if being studied or drawn! On the other hand, their natural talent for seeking out patches of warm sunlight, and arranging themselves in a decorative manner make them fascinating subjects to paint!

    The cats' essential grace and beauty is captured in light and color, using a variety of watermedia techniques on watercolor paper.The series is mostly full-sheet (22x30), but also includes smaller (11x15) paintings, and miniatures (5x7). Prints and cards are available.

    Fine Artist
    (Opening Sunday May 30, 2004
    From 2:00 to 5:00 PM
    )

  • "My work consists of personal and expressive paintings that utilize color, texture and shape to chronicle my feelings, observations and reminiscences. This is often through personal items such as hats, stiletto heels and treasured jackets. Even my fruit and landscape paintings tell a story about my feelings abouy a place I've been in my life. I work in series, some which can be seen on my web site. I sincerely hope you enjoy this show and find something that is personally moving, interesting or fun for you."

  • "Jen Norton"
  • Jen's paintings celebrate the “art” of being human and living on earth. I use mixed media and expressive color to reveal life’s complexity, emotions, and our relationship to our world.

    Beginning with watermedia on paper or canvas, I build the final artwork with layers of collage, colored pencil, gesso, watercolor and acrylic. This process allows me to have control over the final design elements of the composition, while allowing some of the underlying chaos to peek through.

  • "Robert O. Johnson"
  • Robert does most of his artwork using charcoal because he feels it gives him better textures and a broader range of blacks and greys. He has done many drawings of different figures from the past and present. He also enjoys combining both animal and human forms to come up with very unique and striking images that inspire the imagination.

  • "Martha Stephens "
  • Martha believes art is meant to inspire, beautify and mystify thoughts and feelings. Focusing her work on visual as well as philosophical possibilities in life she creates series of works related to love, relationships and the absurdities of human nature as well as nature itself. Martha was born in Colorado and raised in San Jose. Her family encouraged her creativity from a young age and she made her first abstract piece when she was seven years old. Inspired by the Islands at the age of 16 she now lives and works half of the year in Hawaii. Some series include Unconditional Love, Possibility, Relationship, Hana Maui and Pele Series.

  • "Original Watercolors "
    by Jackie Krantz

  • Jackie Krantz. I have always loved to travel, and have found no better means of absorbing a new locale than to spend a quiet morning or afternoon painting it. Interpreting the landscape is like developing a friendship: the more you look, the more intriguing details there are to see. In September 2001 I had the fortunate opportunity to spend a week in and around Sedona, Arizona painting the spectacular red rock formations.

    This exhibit features paintings resulting from that trip as well as others that to me are reminiscent of the region.

    Inkjet Prints by Ken VanBree

  • Ken VanBree has been interested in the art and science of photography since he received his first brownie camera kit when he was in the 7th grade. That summer his father drove the family from Michigan to Yellowstone National Park where Ken’s love of nature photography began. Ken works as a technical contributor at Agilent Technologies in Santa Clara, CA. His current focus is a 20 million transistor CMOS chip that links gigabit Ethernet to synchronous optical networks.
